Enjoying a stunning mountain backdrop and nestled into the outskirts of the beautiful resort village of WANAKA, is the fabulous Oakridge Resort.
In Design International, when asked to develop concept themes for the new interiors, was totally inspired by the awesome natural beauty that surrounds this slightly remote location on the stunning South Island of New Zealand.
When embarking on a refurbishment, we favour staying true to the original architect’s intent by complementing and enhancing the design as opposed to fighting it. There were some exciting external works that caught our attention, particularly around the pool and public areas. Developing our concept theme for the new interiors was therefore driven by these factors, the immediate landscape, the blue skies, golden sun, snow-capped peaks and Otago schist stone, all combining to provide our colour palette.
We specified highly textured fabrics, wallpapers, rugs and artefacts to establish ambience and authenticity. The general look and feel is contemporary by design with “on trend” black metal frames and vintage timber in furnishings and a slightly eclectic touch of lodge comfort and hospitality in the accessories. Throw rugs trimmed with rabbit fur encourage a cosy snuggle on the sofa during cold winter nights by the fireplace. It feels like home!
