"Mundane to Magnificent" (@ The Sebel Flinders Lane)
Located on one of the most iconic streets in Melbourne for food, fashion, proximity to city and all the major sporting entertainment venues, this heritage-listed boutique hotel on Flinders Lane boasts an extraordinary address!
Having already worked on The Sebel Flinders Lane major refurbishment of 68 hotel suites in 2011 for Accor Vacation Club, Penny del Castillo and her IN DESIGN INTERNATIONAL design team were delighted to be back on board for the next round of renovations. In this transformation, IDI tackled several previously untouched areas from the 2011 overhaul. This time the hotel was ready for upgrades to the reception, AVC sales deck, kids club, courtyard and “a newly created honeymoon suite”.
Our client's brief was to create a “home away from home” ambience for the members and guests. Classic, sophisticated elegance is portrayed throughout the project fit-out. There is an immediate sense of nostalgia upon arrival derived from the decorative custom-made wrought iron wall panel behind the bank teller style reception stations. “We had a very small footprint to work with for guests' check-ins, which forms part of the charm of this sought-after property!” says Penny.
Unlike the reception area, the typical guest accommodation rooms are extremely generous in proportion: The new honeymoon suite offers a separate formal entry, living room, dining room, kitchenette/bar, 2 x bedrooms, 2 x bathrooms, a private courtyard accessible from a decadent master ensuite and direct access to the newly rejuvenated central courtyard! We further enhanced our original "Melbourne Black" scheme, by including Arte rich metallic wallpaper, along with polished brass pendant lights & accessories, deep buttoned plush velvet upholstery and a custom design wall to wall carpet digitally printed by Passo.
In the central communal courtyard, we converted the mundane to the magnificent: Rejuvenating the giant stone capped planter boxes with fast-growing greenery and strategically placing decorative privacy screens crafted by Baresque to compliment the authentic heritage balustrade. Artificial lawn has softened the ambience of what was once all hard surfaces while also being practical for the family BBQ, croquet and quoits sets!
