TWIN WATERS - SUNSHINE COAST
NOUVEAU RESTAURANT & AQUA BAR
Essentially a "bar" for the corporate resort guest to "bond" after a hardcore seminar session, but during the holiday season, this cocktail lounge is teaming with teenagers and toddlers screaming for hot chippies! The design brief, of course, was to meet both needs! By night a club-like atmosphere, by day a family gathering place where parents and children could order a casual meal and be within metres of the resorts main beach and swimming pool. We played on the seaside resort theme to inject new character into the previous design which was reminiscent of a shopping centre food court, incorporating lots of timber & rattan which immediately brings a formal to casual. Lighting was crucial to efficiently jump from one theme to another. We brought more natural light in from outside by opening additional full height multi stacking doors to the veranda areas and adding an entirely new system of dimmable ceiling lights and wall washers to create the ambience for happy hour and beyond. By using multiple seating styles such as sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and bar stools, we subtly engineered intimate spaces within the one large area allowing for "zones" to suit various sized groups and various activities. We stripped back years of wasteful cladding which uncovered superb timber craftsmanship dying to be seen! Laser-cut panels were especially crafted to match the pendant lights and applied to the bar fronts inset between battens inspired by the revered Queensland beach house building technique of fixing fibro sheeting!
