CARRARA - QUEENSLAND
MERCURE GOLD COAST RESORT BAR & RESTAURANT
Featuring on the front cover of the Accor Management Guide and carrying the title "A dazzling rebirth" the extensive redesign and upgrade of the Mercure Gold Coast Resort has been cleverly manipulated with minimum structural collateral!!
In Design International Director, Penny del Castillo took on the budget-challenged property and produced a stunning result. The interior scope covered the all-encompassing design of the foyer, reception, restaurant, and bar along with 320 typical suites. Strongly influenced by the tried & true design philosophy that “form follows function” – Firstly due to those existing finishes that were a financial restriction and secondly it was critical to remain practical. The geographical location and surrounding golf course also played a major part in determining the materials and finishes to achieve the casual yet chic ambience.
“We are so very excited to be the first designers in Australia to install the DELTALIGHT XXL Metronome Pendant Lights, which now adorn the double-story entrance lobby,” says Penny. These strategically draw the guest’s eye to the detail of the original VJ ceilings; which previously went unnoticed! The Metronomes are a massive 2100mm high x 1400mm diam. Yes… the size of a typical lift!! Needless to say, the construction team was anxious about the install!
The custom inlaid rug (by PASSO) sets the scene for the mix of resort-style furniture and complements the existing architectural curves of the mezzanine level above. The Private dining room features another iconic pendant light by Cu Design.
